A Newton Interpolation Approach to Generalized Stirling Numbers

We employ the generalized factorials to define a Stirling-type pair {s n, k;α,β, r , S n, k;α,β, r } which unifies various Stirling-type numbers investigated by previous authors. We make use of the Newton interpolation and divided differences to obtain some basic properties of the generalized Stirling numbers including the recurrence relation, explicit expression, and generating function. The g...

Generalized q-Stirling Numbers and Their Interpolation Functions

In this paper, we define the generating functions for the generalized q-Stirling numbers of the second kind. By applying Mellin transform to these functions, we construct interpolation functions of these numbers at negative integers. We also derive some identities and relations related to q-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials and q-Stirling numbers of the second kind.

Stirling Numbers and Generalized Zagreb Indices

We show how generalized Zagreb indices $M_1^k(G)$ can be computed by using a simple graph polynomial and Stirling numbers of the second kind. In that way we explain and clarify the meaning of a triangle of numbers used to establish the same result in an earlier reference.

Modified approach to generalized Stirling numbers via differential operators

In this paper we give a modified approach to the generalized Stirling numbers of the second kind Sr,s(n,k) and Sr,s(k). These numbers were firstly defined by Carlitz and recently studied extensively by Blasiak, Penson and Solomon. This approach depends on the previous results obtained by Carlitz, Toscano and Cakić. We show that Blasiak’s results can be investigated from Carlitz and Cakić’s resu...

Generalized Stirling and Lah numbers

The theory of modular binomial lattices enables the simultaneous combinatorial analysis of finite sets, vector spaces, and chains. Within this theory three generalizations of Stifling numbers of the second kind, and of Lah numbers, are developed. 1. Stirling numbers and their formal generalizations The nota t ional convent ions of this paper are as follows: N = {0,1,2 . . . . }, P = {1,2,. . . ...
